60th Phidian Art Show Winners

With 85 pieces of fine art, the 60th annual Phidian Art Show took places on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the Loveland Community Building. The entries were judged by artist and educator, Diane Dailing of Rockford. The entries showed a variety of mediums and subject matter. Artwork will be on display through April 24, 2007 at Loveland Community Building , 513 W. 2nd. St. Dixon. (Call 815-284-2741 for building hours).

Many of the winning artists' works will be on display for two weeks at TNPS after April 24, 2007.

The following awards were presented to:

  • Myrtle Walgreen Best of Show: Jayne Rose, Grand Detour, for “Venetian Shadows”

  • Phidian Purchase Award: Beverly Garcia, Grand Detour, for Beachcombing”

  • Marie L. Helin Memorial Creativity Award: Debbie Thompson, Dixon, for “Childhood Memories of Visiting the Farm”

  • LeSage Memorial Award for Realistic Style: Ann Marie Potts, Sterling, for “Stone House Mystery”

  • Phidian Past Presidents’ Award: Stuart Roddy, Sterling, for “Summer Time Memories”

  • Connie Wallace Rich Memorial Award for Best Oil Painting: Elizabeth Jahn, Lee Center, for “False Front”

  • Ken Nelson Auto Plaza Award: Karen Vroman, Erie, for “Trillium Whirlwind”

  • Ronald Reagan Presidential Award for Best Regional Scene: Fred Bushnell, Stillman Valley, for “Country Colors”

  • Roger Brown Memorial Award for the American Scene: Jerry Scheffler, Ashton, for “Queenie, Pearl & John”

  • Robert Crowson Memorial Award: Carol Ubben, Mt. Morris, for “Send In The Clowns”

  • Helen M and Sherwood Dixon Memorial Award: Graydon Cafarella, Dixon, for “Afternoon at Red Rock Canyon”

  • Telegraph Award: Lisa Higby-LeFevre, Sterling, for “The Transcendence of Stillness”

  • Caryl Crawford Fleming Memorial Award for Best Nature Subject: Doreen Vroman, Clinton, for “Wood Duck Family”

  • Ann Roe Memorial Award: Suzanne Shedosky Apyar, Prophetstown, for “Evening Tide”

  • Harold Cook Memorial Award for Best Floral: Jane Cress Edgar, Grand Detour, for “White Bouquet”

  • Honorable Mentions Class I: Judy Dixon, Dixon, for “The End of the Season” and Raymond Brod, Byron, for “School Roof”

  • First Place Award Class II: Shirley Guay, Amboy, for –artwork untitled

  • Second Place Award Class II: Melody Hemmer, Dixon, for “Simply Elegant”

  • Honorable Mentions Class II: Roger Hansell, Sheffield, for “Wallace St.” and Margaret Sauer, Morrison, for “Somewhere in Ireland”.
