Leydig Center Awards TNPS Grant

The Next Picture Show recently received a $2,000 grant from the Leydig Center, a Dixon organization that aims to assist not-for-profit groups.

“Our goal is to help agencies that do something good and valuable for the community. We support a wide range of efforts. We believe The Next Picture Show does a great job promoting arts in the community,” said Jim Grot, president of the Leydig Center Board of Directors.

“This is fantastic news for The Next Picture Show. We are extremely grateful to the Leydig Center for its generous support. This gift will allow us to continue to bring the arts to the area,” said Jock Heaton, president of the gallery’s board of directors.

TNPS Executive Director Bonnie Kime said that each year more than 2,000 people from all 50 states and around the world visit the gallery.

“As we continue to grow, we will look for more ways to serve the public,” she said. “This grant is a wonderful vote of confidence for what we bring to the community.”

The Leydig Center, 732 N. Brinton Ave., started 37 years ago in honor of Eurith Leydig, a Dixon resident who helped the poor. After she died, women from local churches mobilized to continue doing good works in her memory.

The center, which is open three days a week and staffed with the help of 70 volunteers, accepts donations of clothing, books, furniture, household goods and other items, which are then sold at a minimal price to the public. The center uses most of its proceeds to help not-for-profit groups and agencies that have a positive impact on the community, Grot said. It awarded about $180,000 last year.

The Leydig Center is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. It accepts donations from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. For more information, call (815) 284-7772.
