Concert Series Continues with Kraig Kenning

Singer/songwriter and National Slide Guitar Champion Kraig Kenning will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at The Next Picture Show, 113 W. First St.

Tickets for the show are $30 and can be purchased by stopping by the gallery or calling (815) 285-4924. The Next Picture Show, a non-profit fine arts community center serving the Rock River Valley, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or by appointment.

“We are so pleased to have a performer of Kraig’s caliber doing a show in Dixon,” said Bonnie Kime, executive director of the gallery. “This continues our efforts to bring quality musical performances to the area.”

Noted folk singer Bonnie Koloc performed at the gallery in June and blues legend Corky Siegel will perform in October.

Kenning is well known for his combination of a variety of genres, including contemporary folk, blues, roots rock, American Fingerstyle or Americana. Playing more than 200 dates a year, Kenning receives airplay on 40 stations nationwide.

At National Guitar's 1st Annual Slide Competition, Kenning took first place honors as Best Unsigned Artist. He has opened for Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, and slide guitar master Sonny Landreth; and he has shared lineups with club and folk series favorites such as John Gorka and Patti Larkin.

His skills have also found a rewarding second home in the blues arena as part of an acoustic duo with noted bluesman Steve Arvey.

Kenning has played some of the nation's largest, most respected music festivals, as well as classic clubs like the Vic and Fitzgerald's in Chicago. At the same time, he has also taken traditionally smaller gigs to heart, and expanded his venue selection to include public library auditoriums, state parks and nature sanctuaries.
