The Next Picture Show will be holding auditions to choose the area’s most talented youth for its first Young Musician Competition. Winners will be invited to participate in the Petunia Festival Parade on July 8, 2007.

Our goal is to provide an outlet to display our youth’s talents, to inspire, motivate and encourage the youth in their music study, and to bring a higher awareness of performing arts in our area,” said Kathy Hann, one of the event organizers.

Auditions will be held at The Next Picture Show, 113 W. First St., on June 4-6. Judges will choose 20 performers to present recitals on June 16 and June 17. The finalists will also be honored in the Petunia Festival Parade on July 8.

The performance dates at The Next Picture Show will be June 16th at 6:30 p.m. and June 17th at 3:00 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase at the gallery. Audition and registration procedures are available at the gallery and on the website.

Audition and Registration Procedure

1. Categories:

Division I – grades 1-3
Division II – grades 4-6
Division III – grades 7-8
Division IV – grades 9-10
Division V – grades 11-12

2. Requirements: Students auditioning must be currently enrolled with a private instructor or participating in a band or choral program at their school. Each student registers under his or her teacher’s name. Teachers will be notified of finalists.

3. Repertoire: Students will perform, from memory, two pieces in contrasting style for judges. Please bring music to the audition. Vocalists must have their own accompanist. Time restriction: Divisions I-III – 10 minutes; Division IV-V – 15 minutes.

4. Registration Forms: Return to The Next Picture Show in care of Kathy Hann, 728 N. Dixon, Dixon, IL, by *May 26*. Audition fee: $5.

5. Entrance: For the audition, please enter the gallery, 113 W. First St., through the back entrance in order to keep a quiet, private space for performers. Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time.
