The 61st Grand Detour Art Festival is being held Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: John Deere Historic Site, Grand Detour, Illinois
Some 61 years ago a number of local artists and art patrons from in and
around Grand Detour planned and sponsored an arts festival during the
late summer season. Since then the festival has grown and now includes
a separate student art show. Food and beverage concessions have also
been added and music has become an integral part of the Sunday show.
Two and three dimensional art is shown in the juried show that is held
on the grounds of the John Deere Historic Site in Grand Detour. It is a
unique spot for an art show allowing patrons to walk about the storied
site viewing the art work and visiting with the artists. Corporate
sponsors have traditionally contributed to the show and this year is
the second one to be held in association with The Next Picture Show in
Dixon, Illinois.
A small admission fee of $2.00 is charged to enter the grounds which
are located one block west of Route 2 at 8393 South Main Street. Hours
are from 9 am to 4 pm. The site can be seen from Highway 2. So, come on
out to the Grand Detour Art Festival and enjoy a stroll through the
historic site and enjoy art from midwest artists.....have a lunch and a
beverage....enjoy the music, and return home with an original art piece
from an artist that you met on a warm sunshiny day in early September.
