An oil painting Landscape Workshop Made Easy taught by Nina Stachewicz will be held at the gallery on Saturday, March 3rd from 9 am to 4 pm. This workshop is designed for beginners or anyone who wants to brush up on their painting skills. Nina will take a step by step teaching approach. She will supply brushes and paints to use for this workshop. You will leave the workshop with a finished painting and a great sense of accomplishment. Kimberly Clark will be teaching a PMC Jewelry Workshops at TNPS on both March 24th from 9am to 4pm and April 14th from 1pm to 4pm. PMC Clay is a unique material that allows jewelry items to be sculpted like clay and kiln fired. The results are stunning! All levels of adult students are welcome and all materials are supplied. Watercolor Painting Classes are taught by Graydon Cafarella. This round of Monday night classes began on January 16th and will run through February 20th when another 6-week session will begin. Look forward to a Monoprinting class to be presented on June 9th taught by William Weber. Monoprints are known as the most painterly method among the printmaking techniques; it is essentially a printed painting. The characteristic of this method is that no two prints are alike. This workshop will run from 9am to 4pm on that day and is open to all levels of adult students. All supplies will be provided. Contact the gallery at 815-285-4924 to register.

Calling All Young Artists
Beginning on February 7th and running for the next 10 weeks, Viva! Young Artist Studios will present an art experience for students in 4th and 5th grades. The 10-week course will be held two days a week at TNPS and will be taught by five different instructors. The course will feature painting, copper relief, watercolor, bookbinding and drawing. The first 2-week course in painting has already been held, but students can still sign up for a pro-rated fee to attend the remaining 4 courses. Events At TNPS
The Sauk Valley Musical Showcase sponsored by Kiwanis will be held at TNPS on Sunday, February 26th at 2 pm. A reception follows the performance. Tickets are available at the door.
For the second year in a row, Dillman’s will hold its Mid-Winter Festival at TNPS. The event will take place on Monday, March 5th from 4 pm to 7 pm. Join us for the demonstrations and reception provided by Dillman’s. This event is free to the public.
This years’ Art 4 Arts Sake fundraiser will be held on Saturday, March 10th at Sauk Valley Community College’s East Mall. Twenty-one local artists will be creating pieces of artwork on site to be auctioned off at the evening event. The doors will open at 4 pm to allow the public to see artwork being made live and to place their bids on silent auction items. Then, at 8 pm, the bidding begins! The evening event will include live music by Al and Jeannie Brown, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and wine/beer cash bar. Tickets are $35 per person or $50 a couple, and are available at The Next Picture Show, 113 W. First St. or on line, www.thenextpictureshow.org.
TNPS, in conjunction with Sauk Valley College, will present The Vagina Monologues on March 16th, 17th and 18th at TNPS. Performances begin at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, with a 3pm matinee on Sunday. Tickets are $10/person or $5/students and will be available at the door.

Deadlines For Artists
Deadline for the Your Best Friend show is May 8, 2012. All media. The artwork in this show will deal with the theme of what the artist considers is their ‘best friend’, be it a person, an animal or maybe a place.
Deadline for our new abstract show called Artists Gone Wild will be July 3rd, 2012. This is an all-media show.

Deadlines For Upcoming Area Shows
The deadline is March 15, 2012 for exhibitors to submit applications to the 41st Annual Northern Illinois Art Show sponsored by the Kishwaukee Valley Art League. The Art Show will be held on June 2nd and 3rd of 2012 on the DeKalb County Courthouse lawn in Sycamore, IL. Applications are available at The Next Picture Show. The 65th Annual Phidian Art Show will be held this year on Tuesday, April 3rd at 6pm at the Loveland Community Building in Dixon. Artists can submit their entries to the Phidian Show on Thursday, March 29th from 2pm to 6pm and on Friday, March 30th from 2 pm to 6pm. Events Around Town
Kreider Services Foundation invites you to an evening of celebration and awareness on Friday, March 9, 2012 6-8pm at The Next Picture Show. 2012 marks the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the original parent organization now known as Kreider Services and The Arc Lee County. The evening will feature the exhibit: “Perspectives: through the eyes, hearts and minds”. Photos in this exhibit were taken by individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Please join us for this exhibition, which is open to the public. Hors’dourves and light refreshments will be served. The “Perspectives” exhibit will be on display at the gallery from March 6th – March 16th.
Les Allen is showing his photography at Sauk Valley Bank through March 17th. The exhibit is in the bank’s conference room and reflects Les’ recent work dealing with studio still life constructions and botanicals all done in traditional silver-based photography.
Sauk Valley Community College’s 2012 Child Fair will be held at SVCC on Saturday, March 24th from 9am to 12pm. The Child Fair will offer hands-on activities, games, crafts, vendors and information on local programs for children.
